The Engineering Institute of Thailand has called on the Government to test urgent traffic control measure on roads where work on the mass transit system projects is taking place.
Chulalongkorn Engineering Lecture khanchit Piewnuan said the plans include controlling the number of passengers in vehicles entering the construction Zone and altering traffic flows. He said this would help the Government see if these measure were effective and would reduce pollution levels. He said the government must :
- Remove obstacles to traffic problem solutions which are caused mainly by the inability to apply proper academic theory to solutions, the lack of proper knowledge to work out an overrall traffic solution, and the impracticality of the bureaucratic system.
- To apply all contingent measures to solve the traffic problems by arranging the existing traffic system to help improve traffic flow by about 20-40 percent, improving public transport by upgrading bus services to attract more users. The institute also suggested ways to help push ahead with mass transit system in the future.
The Government should devise policies aimed at facilitating the transport of people ,
not vehicles.
