The TG/DTG curves of the standard samples composed of 100%
cellulose and another of the catalyst consisting of 100% catalyst are
shown in Fig. 1A and B, respectively. Thermogravimetric results of
the standard samples constituting different proportions of cellulose
and catalyst are shown in Fig. S1 ofthe supplementary information.
Three thermal events were identified for the standard samples. The
first mass loss, named as Peak I in Fig. 1B, took place below 120 ◦C
and is attributed to vaporization of moisture as cellulose and catalyst
may adsorb water during sample handling. However, it seems
that cellulose is more susceptible to adsorb water due to the higher
mass loss exhibited by standard samples where cellulose quantity
is higher
