Despite some recommendations that walking be included in exercise programs for preventing or managing osteoporosis,
this is not supported by the bulk of current evidence. While there is some evidence that brisk walking may slow bone loss, the majority of RCTs and meta-analyses report that regular walking alone has little or no effect on improving or maintaining BMD at the hip and spine or reducing fracture risk. Similarly, the effects of other forms of aerobic-based training on BMD appear to be limited.
