Knowing the exact location of fishing areas reduces inconsistencies when analyzing geographical distribution of fishing effort, fishing, and fishermen migration, among others. This will also facilitate the selection of zones restricted to some or all fishing gears for resources conservation and that can be immediately understood by fishermen. The adoption of fishing areas as detailed as fishermen use and known both by fishermen and fisheries managers is expected to speed up the implementation of management measures as well as enhancing the management itself.
