1. Why do we need warehouse?
-to improve accuracy and cycle time performance
-to minimise inventory severly(error)
-to meet costumer need; costumer demand never equal to supply( supply chain imbalance)
2. Warehouse definition and reason for building up
Definition
- a storage building/ inventory of products
- a commercial building which operaters other activities : manufacturing, assembly products, and distributibes goods.
Reason for building up
-Costumer service for offer coustumer satisfaction
-Stock for buffer product inorder to maintain supply flow
-Product support in Just-in-Time program
-Product mixing in order to meet mix product order
-Consolidation to ensure proper cost with highest costumer service
-Distribution center to meet local merket and transportation economy(การขนส่งที่มีประสิทธิภาพ)
3. Type of warehouse (Ad+Disad)
-Private warehouse
org. Is a owner and operates activities by themself.
-Public warehouse
org. Hires other area or location but they operate activities by themself.
-Contract warehouse
org. Hires the third party to opearate activities intead of them
4. All types of recieving activities (Short answer)
-Direct shipping
1. Vendor(seller) ship goods directly to costumer.
2. Vendor bypass goods untill costumer receives it in order to reduce error or accident.
-Cross docking
1. Loads management in order to sort inbound into outbound and to reduce storage area.
2. Process is not required storage operaton because inbounds are sorted into outbound immediately.
-Recieving scheduling
Manage inbound loads time to match outbond shippments.
-Pre-recieving
1. Information notification of shipment of vendor to consumers.
2. Information communication between vendor and consumer at the shippment time.
-Reciept preparing
1. Prepackaging process in order to meet shipment demand of consumer
2. Attach labels and tags for indentify products in other process
3. Cubing and weighing planning for storaging
5. Pallet and storage systems
-Block stacking
Stack products on the top of each other from the floor level
-Pallet stracking frame
Similarly to block stacking but require wooden rack or steel frame
-One-deep pallet rack
Construction of metal rack which provide effectiveness to picking and load storage
-Double-deep pallet rack
Construction rack with two pallets position deep
-Drive-in rack
Multiple level of pallet rach which provide storage lanes from only one side to reduce aisle space(ช่องว่างระหว่างชั้น)
-Drive-through rack
Similar to drive-in rack but provide accessiblr from both sides
-Pallet flow rack
1. Rack which provide skate wheel or roller conveyor(ล้อเลื่อนหรือสายพานระหว่างชั้น)
2. Input storage at one side; then, the product will flow to the pickup side(FIFO)
-Put-Back rack
1. Input and pick with sameside
2. Storage with put the new one in the front of the old one(LIFO)
-Mobile pallet rack
Single-deep pallet that can moveable for adjusting rack rows
6. Criteria or key to select pallet storage rack
- cost
- storage dentsity
- load assesibility
- throughput capacity(flow between rack)
- inventory and location control
- FIFo management
- LIFO management
- Load size
- Ease of installing
7. Case picking equipment
- Pallet jack picking
1. Transporting pallets at floor level; requires picking to operate at front of vehicles.
2. Grocery picking method
-Pallet trains
Pulles pallet behind system(ลากของ)
-Lift Trucks
Picking and loading vehicle in both floor level and lifting items
-OrderPicking Truck
Lift worker into above floor level
-End-of-aisle case picking
1. Worker pick from storage pallet then directly put into order pallet
2. Worker work as stationary(only pick up and put into no need to walk)
-Automated picking
Robot traverse a picking aisle(Automatic operation un picking item)
8. Why do we need differnt storage and picking area and sepearate of case and broken case picking?
1. Picking area has many picking task and unique eqipment process
2. Picking activity is pick by order from the storage system. As the result, lower turnover items must be keep in inventory.
9. Type of picking operation
-Single orger picking
1. Complete order at one picking time
2. No zoning for picking, operator freely pick the items
-Batch picking
Compound or batch order at one picking time; at the end, worker need to sort items into costumer order
-Zone picking
Limited storage zone; picker has limited responsibility for one picking line
10. Computer and warehouse operation
Computor help opearing and managining warehouse
-pinpoint and anticipate problem
-increase accruracy and reduce order cycle time
-simplify operation
11. Cross-training strategy ( 4 Type )
- Safety and Ergonomic Training = training worker for unsafe environment/situation
- Time standard = balance task and work-hour effectiveness
- SOKO cycle = work in small group; increase performance , reduce cost and time
- Cross training = manage operator size within period : many tasks many workers(peak hours) , lower task lower workers
12. Why do we have to focus on warehouse workforce design?
- Try to improve worker performance with lower cost
