Tropical ecosystems are known for their high species richness. This creates a problem for those who are sampling biodiversity. No matter how much effort one makes in collecting data, morespecies are always entering into the sample ( Hubbell, 2001), making it virtually impossible to collect all species at a given site (totalalfa biodiversity). For this reason, it is necessary for field biologiststo recognize the limitations of their sampling methods and to eval-uate the reasonable amount of time and work needed before theycease sampling.
