Google started search engine advertising in December 1999 and launched AdWords in October 2000. AdWords allowed advertisers to place keyword targeted listings, but charged advertisers on a cost per mil (CPM) basis. Google launched PPC advertising in February 2002. In April 2009, Microsoft and Yahoo! announced a 10 year deal which would see Yahoo! using Microsoft’s search results and search advertising technology. As of 2010, all advertising on Yahoo! and Bing is transitioning to the Microsoft adCenter platform.
