Verification enables improvement, effectiveness and maintain
confidence in the functioning of the system. Audits verify if food
producer follows specific guidelines. Audit information must be
leveraged into corrective actions in order to decrease the risk. The
use of audits to help develop, maintain and improve a genuine food
safety culture holds the most promise in preventing food borne
illness and safeguarding public health (Powell et al., 2013; Sperber,
1998). The surveyed business operators used the audit as a method
of HACCP verification, but this was not the only method used by
them.
