Removal of water hyacinth above Chao Phraya Dam completed

CHAI NAT – Seven days after Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha ordered the removal of a huge tract of water hyacinth blocking the Chao Phraya River, the cleanup above the Chao Phraya Dam has been completed.
On receipt of the order, Chai Nat governor Kanit Iamrahong on Aug 3 set the operation in motion.

Assisted by the military and local agencies, the Royal Irrigation Department used boats and dredges to remove the invasive sea of green, and a fleet of 20 trucks to cart away the tangled mass.
The task of clearing an estimated 50,000 tonnes of the weed clogging a 3-kilometre stretch of the river above the dam was completed on Tuesday night.
To thank those who took part in the job, Mr Kanit on Wednesday treated them to a feast.
