Changes to the way in which the Nhs is being
funded mean that nurses are experiencing many
changes in their roles. Because of this, many
staff members do not welcome changes because
they often cause stress (rCN 2012b). Cicmil
(1999) proposed that organisational resistance
occurs when staff members do not understand
the objectives of the change or how it will be
implemented, which can lead to poor morale and a
lack of enthusiasm. it is important to consider how
staff members involved in the change would need
to be motivated to accept and welcome it. it is also
important to select the right leader to implement
the change and involve all team members in the
change process. Therefore, although a template
community mental health nursing handover
form has been developed, the involvement of the
multidisciplinary team would be required to adapt
the form as appropriate. This could be completed
during team meetings through the use of focus
groups, brainstorming and questionnaires (NiCe
2007b), which would give all members of the
team an opportunity to raise any concerns about
implementation of the handover form.
