Because one of the most important objectives of a national park
is to protect biodiversity and natural ecosystems (Dudley 2008),
the relationships between the spatial locations of conservation targets
and management zones were a major focus of this work. Thus,
the conservation targets (endangered species, alpine ecosystems, and forest ecosystems) were spatially overlaid with the management
zones to evaluate whether the conservation targets would be
adequately protected in the MSMNP zoning designation.
