2.2.8.6. The link between heritage and tourism supply and demand.
Many speak of the supply and demand of tourism product. Again,
however, they often fail to classify the differences between heritage
tourism and other tourism products. In fact, the theory of supply and
demand (and the inverse link between demand and price) is not appropriate for heritage. Foreign museum experts believe that there
is no price elasticity for museums (O’hagan, 1995; Luksetich &
Partridge, 1997). Heritage is also the same. Because of the uniqueness
of heritage, the high ticket price is not an effective way to
control the number of tourists. If the traditional theory of supply and
demand is used in heritage tourism, it will lead to the overexploitation
of heritage resources Therefore, it will adversely affect
the conservation of heritage authenticity and integrity.
