Budget carriers like Ryanair, Wow and Norwegian get away with charging low fares by operating with an à la carte model, charging an ultra-low base fare but then piling on tons of additional fees through the date of travel. Ryanair famously perfected the model — they now charge for everything from using a credit card to printing a boarding pass to even checking in at the airport.
