UK data from the 2009 Insulin Injection Technique Questionnaire7 showed that:
• Fifty-two per cent of people used needles that were longer than 6 mm.
• Sixty per cent had not changed the needle size used since starting injectable therapy
• Seventy-five per cent did not follow any site rotation routine. • Fifty-four per cent reported lipohypertrophy at some point. • Twenty-eight per cent admitted injecting into areas of lipohypertrophy. • Forty-five per cent experienced bleeding or bruising. • Forty-three per cent released the skin fold too soon. • Seventeen per cent used an incorrect technique to lift the skin fold. • Only 41% reported frequent and adequate inspection of their injection sites.
