Thedifferences of both HAA and LAA are attributed to their principles of measurement that is ORAC is based on hydrogen atom transfer, while TEAC involves an electron transfer and reduction of a colored oxidant (Huang et al., 2005; Floegel et al., 2011). However, it was found that TEAC correlated highly with the ORAC with coefficientsof correlation (r) 0.96 and 0.87 for HAA and LAA, respectively. Agood correlation between ORAC and TEAC among different fruitsand vegetables was also reported in other studies (Proteggenteet al., 2002; Awika et al., 2003;). Our study shows that the more common, faster and lower cost TEAC method is a good predictor ofORAC activity of tomato. Nevertheless, it should be noted that the correlation between techniques is dependent on crop species and experimental procedures (Thaipong et al., 2006).
