The goal of Great Learning consists in the elucidation of Bright Virtue, in renewing the spirit of the people, and in resting in the Surpreme Goodness. When a man knows where to rest, his hearts is fixed; when the heart is fixed he can really be quiet; when he quiet, he can enjoy peace; when he enjoyeace he can thinks for himself, when you thinks for himself he can attain true insights. Things have their root and their branches. Affairs have their end and their beginning. To know what is the first and what follows after is to be near to the attainment of Truth. The ancients who wished to spread th eknowledge of bright virtue to the world,first order welltheir own states. Whishing to order well their own state, they first regulated their families.
