CONCLUSION
Japanese society has a huge population of the demented
elderly and will have larger one within several decades.
Family caregivers still play major role in caregiving of the
demented elderly. Most of them are women and older persons
and feel burden. Japanese national long-term care
insurance may not be effective in terms of reducing their
hurden. In fact, there is increase in incidents of elder abuse,
caregiving murder, and double suicide. Male caregivers are
high risk population for committing these incidents
although they are minor part of family caregivers in numbers.
All kinds of effort, societal, political, community, and
personal support should be continued to provide.
