DEFINITION OF A NICHE DESTINATION
It is a destination with a peculiar features that only attracts a specific set of tourists, but also likely to attract further tourists though a strategy which may encourage the development of several niche tourism products in proximity from each other. A niche destination is regarded as a place of interest, which a niche tourist chooses to visit as a result of his/her desire to experience something, related to his/her specific leisure interest. An example if niche destination is the luxury and exclusive resorts located in the Caribbean, which caters for high spending markets (i.e. the rich and famous). Nigeria for instance has developed these kind of up market resorts in the southern part of the country near Lagos catering for an up-market tourism segment.
