Even though management was interested in a discussion of this kind, it was obvious that the non-nursing executives at the negotiating table did not understand the concept of shared governance or how to relate to nurses on this issue. As a result, all non-nursing administrators were asked to leave and only nurse managers negotiated with the CBU on how such a process might work. Because the CBU trusted the CNE and believed her intentions were noble, it was willing to work with her and accept joint accountability for that work.
