Countries in Northern Europe, such as Scotland and Holland
also eat a lot of fish because their coastlines join the North Sea.
The North Sea provides a rich supply of many different types of
fish. But through years of over-fishing, some stocks of fish, such as
cod, are declining too fast. In fact, scientists tell us that there are
approximately 54,000 tonnes of cod in the North Sea today
compared to more than a million tonnes in 1973!
