Feedstock treatment
First of all, solid residues and other contaminants were removed from waste cooking oil received by filtration.
In order to remove soluble impurities, the filtered waste cooking oil was rinsed with hot water.
Some important properties of the fresh and waste cooking oils were also determined by using standard methods and the
results obtained are presented in Table 1.
It was found that the fatty acid composition of the fresh cooking oil is slightly higher than that of waste cooking oil, which is mainly due to the fact that some of oil (or triglyceride) molecules are broken down during the cooking process, thereby forming free fatty acids.
