There was a significant difference
between manager and nurse responses with 90% of managers
responding that nurses could provide nurse-led clinics with clinicians present for consultation if needed while only 27.7% of
nurses actually provided this service. Fewer managers selected
independent nurse-led clinics as a role for the nurses and only
a relatively small number of nurses currently carried out this role.
Managers tended to select a wide range of types of assessment as
appropriate to the nurses potential role. In practice the nurse
focused on assessment of social and supportive care needs rather
than clinical examination or history taking.
