In both experimental assays, settlement was less than the control on surfaces dried 0
and 5 days prior to the assay. Settlement was also lower on surfaces with 5- and
10-day-old non-dried biofilms Ž5- and 10-day ND. compared to the 57-day control
biofilm. Settlement on biofilms dried 10 and 15 days prior to the assay was not
significantly different to that on the control, some settlement did occur on biofilms
which were dried 5 days before the assay ŽFig. 5a and b.. The effect of a single drying
event therefore lasts approximately 5 days or more post-drying.
