Because of the corrosive nature and high free acid
as well as metal content, the spent pickling liquors are
considered as hazardous wastes, and they should be
recovered and/or properly disposed off.
This paper focused on developing a simple and
econimical method for the odor problem
by stabilizing aluminum dross through the addition of
pickling liquors into the dross. The hydrolyzed product
of aluminum dross will react with pickling liquors to
form stabilized compounds and the stabilized dross
would be suitable for sanitary landfill. The method is
hopeful to resolve both the disposal problems of
aluminum dross and the wasted pickling liquor. This
resolves the temporary dross storage, bad odor, and
safety issues related to the burial of waste.
