Generally, a learning disability impedes a student’s ability to process information presented within a given setting. The 2004 amendments to the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) define a learning disability as a disorder in one or more of the basic psychological processes involved in understanding or using language (written or spoken), math, and/or spatial perception. Learning disabilities manifest themselves in many different ways, and can include conditions such as brain injury, minimal brain dysfunction, dyslexia, and developmental aphasia.
