Ganesh Chaturthi @ Phuket Hindu Temple โดย Phuket Heritage Trails
Hinduism is among the different beliefs and religions practiced in Phuket, brought to the island by the early seafarers and Indian trading during 16th to 19th Century.
At an Indian temple in Phuket town, the Temple of Lord Kartikeya, Ganesh Chaturthi , the great Ganesha festival, also known as 'Vinayak Chaturthi' or 'Vinayaka Chavithi' is celebrated by Phuket Hindus as the birthday of Lord Ganesha. Here, it is observed during the Hindu month of Bhadra (mid-August to mid-September) at the same time it is widely celebrated around the world.
Lord Ganesha is the lord of intellect and knowledge, the elder son of Lord Shiva and goddess Parvati. He is the elder brother of Lord Kartikeya (Skanda/ Murugana). Ganesha is the most extensively worshipped god in Hindu way of life. He is worshipped in the starting of any propitious event for blessings and hassle-free work, because he is considered as the remover of obstacles and the lord of beginnings.
This temple was built to honor and pay homage to Lord Kartikeya, Lord Ganesha’s younger brother. He is one of the most delightful gods of the Hindu pantheon. According to Hindu mythological stories, Kartikeya was created out of six sparks from the third eye of Lord Shiva and accordingly he has six faces. Lord Shiva created him to destroy a demon named Soorapadma. Lord Kartikeya rides on a divine peacock and the divine spear is his weapon.
