Shape and length
The most important consideration when choosing your midi-skirt should be your height and body shape. Without exception a midi should either hit just below the knee or just below the widest part of your calf. If you’re petite, it’s important to pick a shorter length to elongate your figure.
In terms of volume, if you have curves choose a skirt that sits on your waist and skims over your hips, while if you have a more boyish figure go for a straighter shape or a fish tail style.
2. Balance it
When mastering the midi-skirt, keeping the balance is vital. A midi will always emphasise your bottom half, so it’s important to keep your top half streamlined. Equally if you pick a bright or printed skirt choose a simple block-coloured top and heels.
Take inspiration from Laura Bailey and team a structured full skirt with a crisp white shirt, or look to the Rochas show and wear a slouchy jumper over a sleek pencil style.
The midi-skirt is also a great way to try wearing a cropped top in an elegant way. A slither of skin on show will also help to balance out the coverage of the skirt.
. Footwear
It’s advisable to team your midi-skirt with heeled shoes in order to lengthen the legs. However heels are by no means compulsory - if the skirt is a flattering length it can look just as chic teamed with elegant flats.
If you opt for a heel chose one that shows off the top of your foot and ankle like a simple ankle-strap sandal or classic pump. Adopt the same rule for flats, with very little leg on show it’s important to keep your shoes minimal and elegant.
Keep your legs out
Yes it’s starting to get colder but this look first and foremost warrants bare legs - a flash of tights will instantly transform your midi-skirt from fashionable to frumpy.
Calf Length Boots: I’d be weary of this combination unless you have a naturally long leg line. Here, it’s important to define the natural waist, thereby lengthening your legs and minimizing that “stumpy” feeling.
