5.6.9 Erection and Dismantling.
General
• Many accidents occur during the erection and dismantling operation.
• Insistence must also be placed on fall protection and the use of safety harness. Thewearing of safety helmets will also be enforced.
• It is essential that all personnel involved are totally familiar with and conform to the correct procedures specified by the crane manufacturer.
• There must be available all the necessary parts and equipment to enable work to be carried out safely. Substitution of part with those of inferior quality or even incorrect components can lead to structural failure, often with disastrous consequences.
• If manufacturers’ instructs are not observed, loads can be produced in parts of the structure which are beyond their design capabilities.
