Blastp query in the Arabidopsis thaliana proteome database
showed that HbMlo1 had the highest identity (71.3%) with AtMlo1.
However, HbMlo1 had only 35.79% and 33.8% identity with barley
HvMlo (CAB06083) and Arabidopsis AtMlo2, which mutation
resulted in powdery mildew resistance in barley and Arabidopsis,
respectively (Büschges et al., 1997; Consonni et al., 2006).
Moreover, HbMlo1 lacked the tetra-peptide (D/E-F-S/T-F) motif
at the C-terminus of the protein, which was a motif characteristic
of barley Mlo orthologs
