In
terms of physical properties, WVP of gelatin films decreased with
clay addition. In many instances the high WVP of biopolymer films
is not desirable, therefore this defect can be overcome by nanoclay.
Light transmittance of gelatin films decreased with inclusion of
clay. This could be regarded as a negative or positive criterion
depending on the application of biopolymer films where light
transmittance may or may not be regarded as a good property. Ta-ken together, clay as an abundant and naturally occurring material,
when used in its nano-sized forms can introduce favorable
mechanical and physical properties in gelatin films. This can result
in producing packaging materials from biopolymers with improved
properties to be used in commercial scale. More research is re-quired to investigate the effects of nanoclay particles and other
nanoparticles on biopolymer films
