The safety of all employees is a primary concern to IMC Potash. An employee-driven, behavior-based system incorporating observation and posaive feedback is one innovative process used at IMC Potash to increase safety awareness. Daily tool-box meetings, monthly safety meetings, quarterly area inspections, supervisor safely tours, a personal safety plan program , pre-operation equipment check lists, and quarterly incentive award
programs are also pan of the overall safety program. An 8-hour, off-site annual refresher course is given once a year to all employees The result of these activities is a 1999 MSHA
reportable-mcident rate of 2 31, compared to the nationwide rare of 7.46. Working over one million man-hours without a lost•time accident has been achieved several times in the recen t history 0f the mine.
