Tapes that were created prior to the Center opening in 1991 and later donated were assessed for deterioration and digitized as a means of preservation. For example, the 60 interviews in the Americans in Vietnam series, recorded between 1974-1977, were identified as at risk
and were prioritized for digitization. Because of the content of the interviews, however, the digitized audio will not be offered via the LDL. In this situation, preservation of the materials outweighed the need to provide access.
