This chapter illustrated the theoretical foundation used in this research. The
various engagement concepts were covered, namely, personal engagement,
burnout/engagement, work engagement, and employee engagement, as were the
measurement methods appropriate for each engagement concept. A brief introduction
to the Airfield Department of Bangkok Aviation Fuel Services Public Company
Limited and its aviation refueling operations at Suvarnabhumi Airport was provided,
as the researcher felt it beneficial to clarify the unique nature of commercial aircraft
refueling. Related studies on the topic of work engagement were also presented to
provide additional perspectives and points of reference. Finally, the conceptual
framework outlining the proposed link between employees’ characteristics,
employees’ level of work engagement, and employees’ performance, and the research
hypotheses to be investigated were discussed. The following topics were covered in
this chapter.
