4.2.2.1. Mastery Experiences
In their discussions of mastery experiences, ENGR 106 students
discussed success or failure with two main types of tasks, technical engineering
tasks (e.g. programming, problem-solving, etc.) and engineering professional
skills (e.g. teamwork, time-management, etc.). As is predicted by self-efficacy
theory, students expressed feelings of heightened efficacy upon mastering one
of these tasks and feelings of lowered confidence in success upon experiencing
failures.
