Median Glasgow Coma Scale score was 7 (lower and upper quartiles, 7-8) and 18 of our patients (85.7%) had deep impairment of consciousness (defined by a Glasgow Coma Scale score ≤8). Meningeal irritation was diagnosed in 10 cases (47.6%). Motor deficits were found in 4 cases (19%): the deficits were determined to be monoplegia for 2 patients and hemiparesis for 2 patients. Ocular or pupillary abnormalities were not found in our series. Twenty patients (95.2%) experienced at least 1 seizure episode. Sixteen patients (76.2%) developed status epilepticus with prolonged generalized convulsions (>10 minutes).
