In June the WHO declared Hong Kong and Beijing SARS free, and the government of Hong Kong announced a HK 1 billion pack-age to rebuild Hong Kong’s battered image so it could lure back tourists and business lost to SARS. The “be my guest” campaign, supported by members of the Hong Kong Hotels Association, was announced right after the WHO declaration, and free airline tickets were awarded and hotels offered discounts of up to 50% on rooms, all to lure back tourists.
