In
2005, the estimated footprint was 360.45 km2, in terms of the
hypothetical equivalent land/sea (biosphere) area this represents
about the 43% of Lanzarote’s 846 km2 territory By 2010, with the
stronger growth scenario, this footprint will equate to almost the
half the island’s territory; 48% to be precise. Moreover, it is interesting
to estimate the contribution of tourism to the total road
footprint. To do so, the estimation assumes that tourists use road
transport at the same rate as the average resident of Lanzarote,
although it is reduced pro rata from the annual footprint values and according to an average 10-day stay
