Buddhist Lent Day is a period of three lunar months during the rainy season when monks are required to remain in one particular place or temple. During this period the monks are not allowed to wander or leave their temples. It is a time for study and meditation. Most schools and organizations around Thailand organize a Candle Parade to their local temple. The day is usually celebrated by merit making, listening to a monk's sermon, and joining a candle lit procession during the night.
