Burton takes this argument one step further to argue that we need "a theory of… knowing, as subjectively contextualized and within which meaning is negotiated" (Burton, 1995, p. 211), and it is this basic stance that underpins her suggestion that we see mathematics "as a particular form of story about the world… Re-telling mathematics, both in terms of context and person-ness, would consequently demystify and therefore seem to offer opportunities for greater inclusivity" (Burton, 1995, pp. 213-4).
