Indeed it has been reported that lep-tin receptor mRNA levels are reduced, whereas mRNA levels for
UCP2 are elevated in visceral fat, which may point to increased
energy expenditure (20). This idea prompted us to test the effect of
topical application of capsaicin on genes related to lipid metabolism,
and we observed that capsaicin treatment upregulated the expression of UCP2, ACSL1 and fatty acid transport protein 1 in mesenteric
adipose tissues
