Numerical ability test
The numerical ability test was based on the validated
Australian literacy and numeracy test for certificate IV in
nursing (Enrolled Nurse), which is a prerequisite entrance test
for applicants seeking employment in New South Wales
healthcare facilities as Trainee Enrolled Nurses. During this
test calculators may not be used and a pass grade of 60% is
required. The test consists of 15 questions with various marks
per question and covers the main key calculation skills (such as
addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals,
percentages and conversions) (Table 1). The total score
ranges from 0 to 22. For analysis the scores were converted
into percentages and could therefore range from 0% to 100%.
