The presence of the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) has reached pandemic proportions, affecting millions of men, women and children around the world. In 2007, an estimated 33.2 million people were living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) worldwide.1 The Joint United Nations Program on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) has reported the total HIV population of North Africa, Middle East and predominately Muslim Asian countries to be nearly 1 million.2 It seems no country has been unaffected by HIV/AIDS, including predominantly Muslim countries.
