The focus on communicative language teaching has been expanded to
using the language to communicate in contexts that are more meaningful to the
students, rather than just daily communication as it used to be when the
communicative approach was first introduced in teaching. For language learning,
there are four skills of English which are reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
Eddie (1992) quoted, Being able o read English gives a person access o an
accumula ed capi al of informa ion, in eres and pleasure. The more effec ively a
person can read, he more effec ively can he gain access o ha capi al”. In addition,
reading is emphasized as the most important skill for language learning (Ur, 1996).
According to the upcoming AEC in 2015, encouraging Thai students to use correct
English grammar is the best way to improve their English skills for communication to
be effective. Therefore, English language has important roles in Thai education since
the past until present.
