all new isolates were able to grow at 35°C in the presence of 5% CO2 on BHI agar supplemented with defibrinated sheep blood. The colonies they formed on the surface of the agar plates were spherical and white. Examination using transmission electron microscopy (TEM) revealed that cells of strains W8125T and W8097T were rod-shaped and exhibited a typical Gram-negative bacterial cell envelope structure. The dimensions of these cells were approximately 0.4-0.6 μm wide and 1.4-1.8 μm long for W8125T and 0.2-0.5 μm wide and 1.0-1.5 μm long for W8097T. Flagella-like structures were also observed in these strains, similar to other Bartonella strains.
