4. Conclusions
Linen fabric finished with [DDA][NO3] showed antifungal activity.
[DDA][NO3] applied in amount of 0.5% per 1 g of the dry fabric caused
visible inhibition of mould growth on the fabric surface. Reduced
growth caused less damage to the fabric’s structure and surface in
comparison to unfinished linen fabric, where the entire surface was
covered with moulds. The results obtained were confirmed by evaluation
of strength properties. The loss of breaking force in the case of
fabric containing 0.5% [DDA][NO3] was smaller than that observed for
the lower concentration and unfinished samples.
The IL studied was an effective antimicrobial agent against both
bacteria and fungi. In the case of moulds responsible for natural fiber
biodeterioration processes, application of the highest concentration is
necessary.
Applying [DDA][NO3] in the finishing process of linen fabrics allows
for attainment of new barrier properties against a wide range of
microorganisms, leading to improvement in the fabric’s usefulness.
