The natural values of the Wigry National Park have been confirmed in official documents, i.e.:
The complex of Wigry lakes has been entered in the Aqua programme by the IUCN;
The Park has been numbered among the Ramsar Convention, i.e. among entities of international significance, on account of its habitats of water and mud bird species;
The Park’s area has been included in two categories of Natura 2000 areas because of variety of species and habitats found there; the WNP is part of the Augustowska Forest No PLB 200005, recognized as a wildfowl refuge, and because of the habitats it is The Wigry Refuge No PLH 200004.
