Through disaster risk management lives can be saved and damage and loss can be prevented, which makes it vital for sustainable and stable de-velopment. In high-risk countries and regions, disaster risk management should thus be integrated into land use planning. In order to identify the hazards and vulnerabilities at the local level, land use planning in these regions should be based on detailed risk analysis and maps, including risk mapping. In addition and as a means of achieving the integration of disaster risk management into land use planning, a disaster risk manage-ment checklist could be elaborated and integrated into the national land use planning guidelines to help identifying an adequate manner for con-sidering disaster risk and disaster risk management in land use planning within the national context.
