Professor Sidabutar from Jakarta started CAPD in 1985 with the O-set. At that time, complication rates— especially that for infection—were still high, and health care personnel were inexperienced; CAPD was therefore not popular and also not the treatment of choice. As experience increased, many centers started CAPD as an alternative to HD as renal replacement therapy. During 1990 – 2000, 461 patients received CAPD.
