Maturity is not the same as normality or mental health. Some people, when told that they are immature, immediately conclude there is something wrong with them. But when we speak of maturity, we speak of growth and development, and not of sickness and health. Maturity can be said to spread out on a continuum that goes from immaturity at one end and to maturity at the other. Normality can include both immaturity and maturity; and healthy people can be mature or immature depending on level of growth and development they have achieved (Champoux, 1998).
