Intensity; the first trait of light, can play a role in behavioural differences and birds may
respond to a brighter light for these particular issues (Davis et al., 1999). Generally,
brighter light will foster increased activity, while lower intensities are effective in
controlling aggressive acts that can lead to cannibalism. Producers regularly use
modern control systems to increase light intensity for short periods during grow-out
and thereby reduce skeletal and metabolic disorders. It is advisable to install
dimmable lights in all poultry production facilities in order to achieve the desired
light intensity.
